This conference will equip Formation leaders, whether lay, ordained, full-time, part-time, or volunteer, to better navigate the racial and social justice issues we face as a church and society. Rev. Dr. Harvey's groundbreaking book, Dear White Christians, and her upcoming release, Raising White Kids, will be the backbone of our time together. The conference will also feature plenaries from Heidi Kim and Rev. Chuck Wynder and their work: Becoming Beloved Community.
Our workshops will deal with our justice theme, but there will be lots of options for workshops that delve into other topics and interests. This year, our workshops are being curated to make sure that there are options for every age and formation focus.

Extravaganza 2018: Finding Forward
Intensive Care Courses: January 25-26, 2018
Main Event: January 26-29, 2018
The Extravaganza is an amazing event. The Extravaganza is an annual 4-day conference that draws together anywhere from 500-750 adults who work with youth in congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for the premier renewal, education and networking event of our church. It is for the professional and the volunteer. It is for the old and the young. It is for the urban, the suburban and the rural. It is for pastors, it is for laypeople. It is for all who share in the adventure we call youth and family ministry.
The Extravaganza is put on by the ELCA Youth Ministry Network.

In theology and ministry with young people, disability is often treated as a problem to be solved. Christian leaders approach people with disabilities as a target audience in need of integration into traditional church programming, rather than as full-fledged members of Christian community. But what would happen if the Church were to invest in and affirm young people with disabilities as active members of the body of Christ? How might the Church be reformed and reshaped by God’s work in young people with disabilities? Join the Institute for Youth Ministry for this 2-day event where we will engage both scholars and practitioners, striving to create an interdisciplinary conversation that makes a difference in a world of difference.
Engage with scholars and practitioners who care deeply about ministry with young people.
