Claim Jesus
Dear Lord, Help us to claim you as our own as you claim us. Give us strength to proudly share your love with others. Amen
He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Mark 8:29
During a recent presentation, Pastor Linda attempted to help the Confirmation students understand how important is for us as Christians to know, believe and boldly share the Apostle’s Creed as our faith statement. As the evening began, the words were mumbled and indiscernible by those gathered there. Finally, with much coaching the words of the First Article of the Apostle’s Creed echoed throughout the room. In small group I continued to invite the students to practice expressing their faith through the words of this important creed – and they did well!
All this brought back memories of my own confirmation experience. I remember my pastor saying that when we say the Apostle’s creed, we should look others in the eye and proudly claim this Creed in our hearts and minds; to say to others, “YES, I DO BELIEVE WHAT I AM SAYING!” Sunday mornings I look out from the choir loft at the congregation and share my faith statement with all who worship there as they, in return share their witness with me. When Jesus asks, “Who do you say that I am?” we can be proud to answer.
