Being Thankful
Loving and listening God, help us to come to you as children. Help us to trust you as children
trust and believe your promises. In the name of your Son, our Lord and Savior, Amen
Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it. Mark 10:15
So . . . what are you thankful for? When I asked a group of 6 year olds this question their answers included being thankful for various toys, their dog/cat, mom and dad, their grandparents – the lists were long and fairly predictable. Their thankfulness was sincere and uncomplicated. They weren’t trying to impress me with political correctness.
When we pray – talk to God – we often think we need to use fancy words and intellectual statements. However, just listen to a child’s prayers. They are simple and include things that, in our sophistication we aren’t comfortable including. If we take Jesus at his word and come as children to receive his promises, we should let the little children lead us; let them be our example.
